how much did that whole thing set you back?
because thats actually very close to what im getting soon in the way of
m/board (except the next one up)

processor (except only a SC 3800+)

btw: is upgrading to 64 bit worth the extra $$$?

64 bit is crap because there are hardly any games or programs that support the 64 bit

1. amd 64 bit cpus support 32 bit programs
2. windows xp x64 is a pure 64 bit OS which also emulates 32 bit applications
3. vid card and a few other major companies have developed or are developing 64 bit drivers for hardware
4. many game engines support 64 bit processing in XP x64 including:
* the Source engine (hl2, css, etc)
* the Crytec engine (far cry)
* the Unreal 2 engine (UT2004, Americas Army, etc)
* the DOOMTEC engine (Doom 3, Quake 4)
* Battlefield 1942, vietnam, 2
* C+C: Generals
5. Windows Vista will support 64 bit processing

you dont need 64 bit apps with a 64 bit processor - they are backwards compatible.

do your research before you start saying things.

i have noticed major improvements in speed in certain multi tasking applications
here is the main piece of research (out of a lot that I did before buying) that twisted my arm to the amd 64 4800+

i cant afford dual core but 64 bit i can do.
what i will do is just run 32 bit windows on the 64 bit procesor to avoid driver problems until my wireless internet adapter has a 64 bit driver

Hey pb, u should be able to get a wireless driver. U don't need the one for your specific card, as i found out when I installed one just yesterday that a friend found for me. Mine's a d-link, who are refusing to make x64 drivers, but the one i got works, even though it was made for a different card. Anyways, have fun looking.

anyway, theres still a while until i can buy anything - i have to get a $750 7800gtx, a $370 motherboard and a $430 cpu and im $600 off :S

would that mean u can donate ur old card video card to me when u get ur 7800GTX??? So that I can finally play insane racing without crashing out miserably??

1. not for free, depending on when i get the 7800, i will figure out how much its worth. currently its $200, but i will be using it for at least another 8 months.
2. a lot of other people want it too.
3. i still have my 5200 (for backup), but im using it right now, the 6600gt is in the shop (hopefully back before 30 hr lan)
4. i'll sell my mx440 for 30 bucks? lol

its agp, 64mb, and it was the best money could buy 3 years ago
it even plays hl2*, doom 3* and ummmm i dont know about far cry

*on 640x480 low graphics in performance mode and dx7 mode 30 fps
