what a waste of money. you

what a waste of money. you had a perfectly good PC already.
also, opting for dx10 so soon is a bad idea. the most expensive parts aren't always the best choice.
and, after all that, you are using integrated sound? please. you could have spent that money on something good...

my "perfectly good" pc was

my "perfectly good" pc was an amd and wouldnt play half of the games we play.
additionally this is also a business machine and it is designed for coding - the two widescreens - one will be vertical ans is replacing an old machine.
in relation to the new parts - i have 3 friends wih almost the identical setup and they have no problems with it, in fact thats what inspired me. integrated sound is fine. I have been using creative audigies for the last 5 years and have had a lot of problems with them. I hvave a 7.1 surround system for sound and good headphones for LANS

my family already all have their own pc (we have 8 pcs here) and we play network games so why would we want to buy a wee?

pb - theres no need to be rude

hmm, what was the problem

hmm, what was the problem with the amd? i am thinking of upgrading to an amd and i am wondering what is wrong with it...

sorry if i came off as rude but i just think that it is complete overkill because such a video card will not be much better than one half its price until dx10 comes out. and since i know you dislike vista, even then you wont be using it.

edit: dammit, just forget i said anything.

btw, whats with the vertical screen? and the raptor hard drives?
also, how much? i know that it probably cost a small fortune....whats its 3Dmark06 score?

no probs im going to be

no probs
im going to be using vista eventually - thought not at the next lan
i havent collected the beast yet - pick up friday morning so dont have a 3dmark score

raptors will be mirrored as system drive - Faaaaast
vertical screen for coding

all up $8300 so not bad I thought

the AMD sucks at network games. sad because its a great business machine and plays most games just fine in single player mode

Penguinboy's picture

are the newer AMD (M2

are the newer AMD (M2 platform) CPUs better for networks?

dunno just not going to buy

i have the new M2, runs

i have the new M2, runs perfectly fine in network games, i love it, TIM u got seagate drives! ofmg, they will fry in 6 months.....lol, WD alll the way.

PB M2's are fine, s939 on the other hand are great single core, but buggy dual core. :D

That is abit of overkill

That is abit of overkill there mate so i would have to agree with Penguinboy, I have seen worse thou lol. At the end of the day it's what makes u happy.

Btw look forward to kicking some butt at the 30hr.

overkill - hehe that is

overkill - hehe that is going to be the pc name
no

heres what this machine has to be able to do
manage 3 PST outlook files of between 1 and 2 gb each as well as my current OST of around 700Mb
run my one note notebook
open ie7 with several windows open
open at least one instance of firefox with between 50 and 70 windows open including a lot of java and ajax (heavy on ram)
open dreamweaver with several files being edited
run 4-8 ftp sessions in cuteftp
run photoshop 7 with numerous images being edited
run adobe illustrator cs2 with numerous images being edited
run microsoft excel - several large spreadsheets at once and also the vba editor (on second screen in portrait mode)
several im sessions open
winamp or media player running music
often open vlc or media player classic to view movie clips

thats what I generally have running at once - sometimes theres more running - eg word, visio, remote desktop sessions to the server, streamripper downloading music, azureus downloading torrents etc. i also stream music and videos to my hifi media streamer in the media room from this box

if you can price me a machine that can do all that for less than this without sacrificing performance (and time is money) then go ahead.

oh and sometimes i want to play games on it!

Penguinboy's picture

'sometimes' shouldn't

'sometimes' shouldn't deserve a $1000 graphics card ;)

well, as i said to 007 (who bought a $70 mousepad LULZ), expensive equipment wont stop me from pwning you!

PS: if you dont name that machine 'overkill', i will personally strangle you with the seekrit piano wire in my superubarleetjamesbondwristwatch. i got it on sale at the superubarleetjamesbondgiftshopandcheesefactory with my superubarleetjamesbondgiftshopandcheesefactorygiftcertificateworthequalanduptoonehundreddollarsandzerocentsexpiresoneyearafterpurchase i got for christmas.

haha latest news is is it

haha
latest news is is it might not make it to the lan due to the motherboard and video card being held up in customs

and just to appease you i didnt go the dual sli cards either cos that would have been overkill

ps "sometimes" was just a leetle sarcastic

Penguinboy's picture

obviously :P

obviously :P
