iPhone 4 sim cards

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Sun, 25/07/2010 - 01:29

The iPhone4 is unique compared to other mobile devices in many ways, but one way that the average consumer will not notice is still quite relevant in terms of technology.  The iPhone 4 sim cards are actually micro-sim cards when compared to the regular size of a mobile sim card, which means that twice as much data can be stored on a small computer chip that is half the size of its counterparts.  The fact that this can be done by Apple paves the way for future mobile innovation, and smaller mobiles that can provide much more powerful services.

One of the advantages to creating smaller sim cards for the iPhone 4 was that there was more space for additional features in the ground breaking mobile such as built in speakers, a better battery, and a better video and camera system.

The less space that is needed by key components of a mobile phone the more room there is for additional technical details.  Of course, for the average user of the iPhone 4 who wants freedom and the mobile device the fact that the sim card is not standard adds a bit more complication to the situation.

Traditionally, with free sim cards that come as part of sim only deals a user simply inserts the sim card into a mobile device of their choosing and can start to access a provider’s network.  However, given the fact that the iPhone 4 utilizes a smaller sim card some difficulties may arise while when you try to utilize the same sim only deal on the mobile that you would on any other smartphone.

The good news is that the iPhone 4 is still compatible with other sim cards, but the major problem lies in the fact that it is locked into an exclusivity deal that makes tampering with service providers quite problematic.

This said, there are still many ways to unlock the iPhone4 that will allow one to use a sim card only deal in the mobile favourite.  However, some of the methods are not only unorthodox, but also illegal, which makes determining how to complete the process of your own a bit more complicated.  With the proper research and the proper aid of a computer expert, however, discerning how to proceed with using the iPhone4 in the manner you choose is possible.

Nexus One is quietly dumped by Google

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Sat, 24/07/2010 - 17:48

Google has quietly slunk away from its smartphone presence with Nexus One instead stating that the handset is no longer available via products such as Google Answers and Google Notebook.  It also closed all direct sales stores for the mobile phone just seven months after its initial launch.

In May Google first announced that Google would no longer sell the phone and the original URL for the Google Nexus website now automatically directs browsers to a webpage with a message of its demise.

The Nexus One was Google’s first attempt to enter the consumer hardware sector although Vodafone was the only mobile provider that was authorized to sell the phone.

Sales of the Google mobile were trumped by the Nexus One’s twin, the HTC Desire, and Android phones such as the Xperia X10.

VP of Engineering at Google, Andy Rubin, confirmed that the web store will now be used to showcase what Android phones are available in the global market which has not yet taken effect.

Rubin also added that the Nexus One was posted to be innovative and used as a stepping stone to get people interested in Android smartphones.  However, now that Android mobiles can be snapped up for as low as £15 per month with a contract, it is time to retire the mobile.

Viruses and Trojans via Facebook

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Thu, 22/07/2010 - 21:43

Facebook and cyber social networking sites generally are ever becoming more popular as a way of staying in touch with what your friends are doing, arranging evenings out, and generally chatting, but be warned, here too the ominous computer virus can strike!

Ankit Fadia a renowned ethical hacker and cyber expert has recently warned that with just one wrong click within Facebook, you could be downloading a virus to your computer, instead of looking at someone’s photos, a funny message or something else equally innocuous.

The latest trend of infiltrating computers, it seems, will now be through Facebook. It would also appear that this method began a few months ago, and has been on the increase ever since. This of course in turn means that the number of people whose systems are infected this way is likely to rise.

With one single click, all your contacts will receive a message from your facebook account, your system is infected, and the virus is on its way elsewhere. It all starts with an anonymous e-mail through the Facebook system. If this mail is clicked on, in any Facebook account, a pop up box appears asking permission to download with the options ‘yes’ and ‘no’. If the person clicks yes to this, then all the friends that they have listed on their account will receive the same message while at the same time, the download takes place.

Although this basic passing on of a message like this might seem harmless enough, what it does, is to allow the virus to infiltrate your computer and that of any one or more of your contacts who also click ‘yes’. The download is a trojan virus, and, once a trojan is installed in the computer, the access way is open for cyber criminals to get in there, access your system and hack your passwords, banking, personal details and anything else that you do on your computer.

Older methods of getting viruses onto computers via spam e-mails are still out there, and still need to be watched for, but with social networking becoming more popular with people, the cyber criminals are following suit and utilising this nice easy method of infiltrating computers.

There is a very simple way to avoid getting a virus through Facebook however. So what is this simple solution? Never ever click on the ‘yes’ button to download anything, and never click on any other anonymous messages either. The virus cannot transfer from one system to another without a point of access, and it is the mistake of clicking ‘yes’ which gives it this point of access.

Looking for the best mobile deal?

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Thu, 22/07/2010 - 18:43

How does the mobile phone in your pocket look? A little outdated perhaps? A bit scratched and battered after 18 months or two years’ good services? Are you looking to upgrade but can’t be bothered with the hard sell of your local phone shop, where the advisors mainly seem intent on selling you the most expensive phone, rather than the one you actually want? If this sounds like you, then you need to log onto your Internet browser and head towards www.dialaphone.co.uk.

The truth is, there is so much complexity in people’s lives nowadays, so much so that we all enjoy something when it is presented to us in simple, concise, clear to understand terminology, that isn’t designed to try and sway us to spending more than we can afford on something we don’t need.

In addition, we find it really helpful when an item is explained clearly and honestly, providing the information and level of understanding required ensuring that the customer can select the ideal phone for their situation. This is precisely what you get from Dialaphone.

The Dialaphone website explains products in perfect detail. Not only are the terms and conditions of any contract clearly outlined, including the number of free minutes and texts you would receive as part of the package, but the amount you will pay each month is clearly detailed, along with which service provider you would be with.

It is refreshing to log onto a website that gives you as much detail and information about a mobile phone that is going to cost you £10 a month, as those that are going to cost you £75 a month or more! In addition to the details surrounding the new contract, Dialaphone also offer great information on the phones that you would receive as part of that contract.

Simply click on the phone you are interested in and a sub-menu appears that lists factually, without subjective opinion, all the different features of the phone. It’s simple, straightforward and easy to navigate.

Indeed, the site just improves when you have found a phone that you like the look of. A click on the phone will bring up the entire list of deals that this phone is available on with a whole host of providers! You can refine your search still further, perhaps looking only for contract deals that are 12, 18 or 24 months in length, ones that offer unlimited texts, or offer a package of free texts and free minutes to suit your usage to perfection.

In addition, the monthly cost is displayed, taking into account the line rental, and any additional cash you may need to pay towards the phone on the deal is also displayed. There is no need to sit and listen to a sales person trying to persuade you to go for the most expensive phone, primarily because it has extra functions on it. Functions that you know very well you will never understand, let alone use!

There’s also no need then to come home and face the other half, who believed you had gone to tie up a deal on a new phone of around £10 a month, only to see you arrive home and greet you with a face like thunder because you have instead been persuaded to invest in a brand new smartphone and a contract of £75 a month for the next two years!

Something they may deem a little excessive since you have had 100 free texts a month for the last year or so on your former deal and have used the princely number of 13 texts in that period and have yet to successfully make a phone call without throwing the phone to your son in desperation for him to get the number up on screen!

With Dialaphone, you get to sit and peruse through every phone, every deal on every tariff with a whole range of service providers and select the contract, phone and provider who offers you the best possible deal. No pressure and with the greatest possible service, regardless of whether you are buying the most expensive new smartphone or the cheapest mobile phone available.

However, the site will guide you towards the best deals available. Currently, if you are interested in the Sony Ericsson W205, a classy piece of kit, you can for the princely outlay of just £20 a month receive 100 minutes and unlimited texts per month, plus the phone free, on an 18-month contract with O2. A great deal! Even better when you consider that you can get as part of the deal a Sony Playstation 3 Slim completely free of charge!

Those who want the latest technology will also be delighted to hear that Dialaphone also has stocks of the Apple iPhone 4, which is available on a variety of different tariffs and with different providers! Even a critical significant other would have to be impressed with that!

Dialaphone offer a range of phones to suit any budget, whether you are looking for the most simple, basic phone to use simply to call people, or whether you want the all-singing, all-dancing brand new smartphone technology, that can log into the Internet, download thousands of apps, play music, navigate you safely to your destination and probably cook your tea, feed the dog and even get the children to do their homework of an evening, then Dialaphone not only have the phone for you, but they have it on a variety of tariffs too.

So whether you are looking to upgrade your pay as you go phone to something a little more modern, are coming to the end of a contract and looking to upgrade, or are looking for a phone on a package and deal that is unbeatable in terms of service and value, take a look at www.dialaphone.co.uk to be sure to get the best mobile deals currently available in the UK.

Phones4U: Be dazzled by the choice of mobiles

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Wed, 21/07/2010 - 19:00

The task of buying a mobile phone right now can be somewhat overwhelming. With an incredible number of handsets out there, each offering customers something different, it’s hard to know where to begin. A good place to head to is the Phone4U website.

Whatever type of phone you’re after, whether it’s a top of the range contract smartphone all the way through to a cheap and cheerful pay as you mobile, you’ll find a wide selection of different handsets to suit your individual needs and perhaps more importantly, your budget.

If money is one of your main concerns then you’ll be highly impressed by the great deals that are on offer online. You can take advantage of pay as you go and pay monthly special offers, as well as some great value deals that are bound to bring a smile to your face.

You might not believe it but you can get a pay as you go mobile for as little as little as £7.95. The Nokia 1661 is ideal if you’re looking for a standard phone that will allow you to text and make phone calls.

The compact and easy to use phone is perfect if you don’t pick up your mobile that often, and if all you really need it for is in case of an emergency. Simply purchase £10 of Orange airtime and you’re ready to use your bargain mobile. You’ll be hard pushed to find a cheaper mobile.

Many modern mobiles come with a whole host of functions that you may not even understand, let alone use, and if this sounds like you then a great value pay as you go handset is the way to go.

If you want your mobile to have a stunning camera, social networking capabilities and great battery life though, then one of the latest smartphones to hit the market will interest you greatly.

Smartphones have led the transformation of the mobile market in recent years and now modern handsets can do a whole plethora of things. Browsing the Internet at speed is now considered to be standard, as it having a multi-megapixel camera for you to take photos with. If you’re looking for a mobile that can do those things and more, then you certainly won’t be short of choice.

Despite its popularity, the iPhone doesn’t have it all its own way. You may decide that the iPhone isn’t for you and then you’ll want to know what other options you have, and the answer will be plenty.

The BlackBerry Curve or Bold 9700 are good handsets to go for if you want a mobile to use for business, but they shouldn’t just be pigeon-holed into that one area. With the BlackBerry Bold 9700 you can get unlimited email as part of your contract, and can select between the tariffs offered by O2 and Orange. You can even get 600 minutes of talk time a month on the Orange Panther tariff, giving you ample time to talk for free.

You can also access the independent reviews for each phone and see what other people who own the phone think of it and whether they’d recommend it.

So if you’re planning to ditch your old mobile in favour of a brand spanking new one, head online where you’ll find all the information you’ll ever need, so that you can take advantage of the great deal that is right for you.

It used to be that if you wanted to be able to play, work, and just relax you needed three or four different devices depending on the function you were looking for.  However, now you can easily find all of these features in just one mobile gadget plus plenty of additional features then the HTC smartphone collection is a perfect gadget.

For example, you once had to carry your phone for talking, a walkman to listen to music, a camera for photos, and a video camera if you wanted to record anything.  However, now all you need is a smartphone and you are equipped for anything.

HTC has plenty of deals as well to help you get one of these multi-purposeful tools if you do not yet own one, such as the HTC H2 deals.  IN order to get this phone, many stores offer mobile phone deals that come with a contract.  For the best deal your best bet is to ask the retailer what they have to offer.

Fanless fan sells out for Dyson

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Wed, 07/07/2010 - 02:21

British entrepreneur James Dyson has created a new fan called the Dyson Air Multiplier fan that draws air in through its cylinder base and forces it back out via a ring.  Since the fan does not have blades it make appears as if the air is simply magically appearing.

The reception of the fan is huge as it has already run out of stock at the warehouse of the company and it is thought that Dyson has responded by doubling volumes of production at its Malaysian factory.

The gadget was launched in 2009 but it only hit high street shops last year.

The time of its launch, he said that the fan would be able to capture consumers’ imaginations across Britain even though it cost over ten times more than the average fan which weighs in at about £18. Judging by the retail demand, he was right and due to the fact that the weather has hit a warm spell, even at £199 the fan is flying off the shelves.

A third of all the fans sold in John Lewis department stores were Dyson fans with Marks & Spencer also reporting that they have watched sales increase by four last week.

Buyer for John Lewis, Paul Martin, stated that fan sales have increased by 177% over the year with the Dyson model leading the way.  He continued to explain that while it is much more expensive than normal desktop fans, customers love the way it looks and considers it an investment.

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Wed, 30/06/2010 - 20:21

Surfing online can be a great deal of fun and a great way to conduct business, but surfing online also comes with a great deal of danger since many online fraudsters consider your computer open prey, in the same manner a burglar sees an open window as an invitation..

However, instead of leaving the window wide open for easy entry, you can protect yourself with the right antivirus suite, such as the BullGuard Internet Security 9.0 suite, which is built to protect against viruses, malware, Trojans, and plenty of other online risks, while also offering backup services for all the media files on your computer.

It is the combination of the backup service and antivirus protection that makes the BullGuard Internet Security Package such a great deal, because this combination offers you full protection against all of the threats that exist online, and in the case of a new threat, complete protection so that your data will always be secure.

The backup service also offers you protection from technical problems that can face a computer user at anytime, such as a crashed hard drive or an overheated fan that can crash a system in less than five minutes.  These threats are no longer a concern if you can rest assured your data is backed up in full on a regular basis.

Among the key features of the Bullguard Internet Security Package is full protection against Trojans’, spyware, and a firewall that will keep hackers and intruders out of your computer.  This helps protect you not only from identity theft and other types of online fraud, but it also guarantees that you will not ever experience how it feels to have your computer remotely taken out of your control.

In addition, the antivirus software reaches deep into your online transactions to protect you from all emails and phishing spam mails that may otherwise deftly trick you into revealing sensitive information.

As if the spam filters, back-up, and full antivirus protection is not already a winning combination, the Bullguard Internet Security Package is able to back up its claims by offering around the clock 24.7 support in English.

So you can always reach a support agent for aid even if a problem arises at an inconvenient time.  However, with the simple installation and user friendly interface most users will find the program is so easy that once installed they can quietly continue their browsing experience without fear of problems or attacks ever again.

Finding iPhone 4 Deals

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Wed, 30/06/2010 - 17:49

With the big demand for the iPhone 4 and Apple claiming to have already sold 600,000 mobiles, everyone is looking at mobile phone deals in an effort to discover if they can get a better deal than those that have seen advertised.

However, the search for the best iPhone 4 deals is a bit harder than the typical search for a mobile phone, given the fact that Apple only markets the mobile through select buyers and controls the retail pricing of its models very tightly.  In fact, Apple controls its pricing so tightly that at times the pricing may only be competitive by a matter of pennies.

With this thought in mind, it may be practical to wait for the buzz surrounding the iPhone 4 to die down a little bit before heading out into the marketplace to buy the new model.  While you may not be one of the first people in your circle to get your hands on it, the truth is that regardless the phone will still have all of the same capabilities and all of the same new features, but may have a bit of a friendlier price tag once the demand passes.

Of course, there is always a high demand for all Apple products, which is why it is so hard to find the best iPhone 4 deals compared to other regular mobile phone deals which usually abound throughout the retail shops and internet.

However, like any other mobile phone, as the demand starts to dwindle a bit and a growing number of models get out there in the marketplace, wholesalers will begin to resell the models and refurbished models of the iPhone 4 will begin to flood the marketplace making the price tags look a lot better to those that are on a budget and looking to secure a great deal.

Even better, after a little of time has passed the bugs will be worked out on the new iPhone 4, so you have a better chance of getting a model that is not in need of an upgrade or a model that comes with a bug.

The truth is that while it may be hard to wait, in order to get the best deals on the upcoming iPhone 4 a little patience may pay off immensely, and given the large wait times, there is no real reason to rush your purchase.

iPhone 4 sales already heading for 2 million

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Wed, 30/06/2010 - 00:56

On Monday Apple said that iPhone 4 sales had reached over 1.7m units over the first three days that the mobile device was available for purchase to consumers.

CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, stated that the Thursday launch of the product in retail outlets was the most successful launch yet for Apple, and apologized to customers that were unable to purchase the product because stores ran out.

In both 2008 and 2009 Apple sold one million of the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS respectively during the first weekend of sales. However, despite the large sale numbers, the iPhone 4 launch was not without problems as users soon found that there were problems with the antenna on the popular mobile.

Customers easily were able to show the rapid signal loss of the mobile as it went from four bars to none depending on how the device was held.  Apple responded by stating that users should not cover up the antenna which runs along its side with their hand.

Outside observers have suggested that the issue may actually be software related and that Apple may release an update to the IOS 4 system early this week.

WiBE may be answer to broadband notspots

Gizmophobe Technology & Gaming - Fri, 25/06/2010 - 17:37

Good news for U.K. residents in outlying areas who are far from the phone exchange and suffer broadband deprivation as a result.  Deltenna, a small U.K. company that designs and manufactures wireless infrastructure and access points, has just come out with a gadget called the WiBE (Wireless Broadband Enabler), which promises great improvement in the clarity and speed of broadband connections in areas that up to now have been out of range.

The WiBE is a compact (18 x 13cm) device that works on the same principal as TV antennas to boost the signal.  The creators say it was designed for emerging economies and rural areas that have access to a mobile network, but not to high-speed DSL lines.

They tested it extensively in rural areas of the U.K. and results show an average download speed of 2.8 Mbps; its maximum throughput is 7.2 Mpbs.  It is self installed, meaning users can just plug it in, put it on a windowsill and connect a laptop, smartphone or VoIP phone from anywhere in the home or office.  The data throughput in weak signal areas is typically 30 times more than a 3G dongle, and the range is up to five times greater.

The WiBE uses patented antennas and alignment algorithms that can identify the fastest download source and configure the individual mobile cell’s aerials for the best possible connection.  Deltenna’s CEO, Andrew Fox, said that the device will allow millions of people who have never been able to get a speedy connection to join those who already take it for granted.
